Trashketball, Scratch Jr., and Cardinals

We delved into the letter z today, a new calendar pattern for the month of December, small group games of "trasketball" (recycling paper crunched into balls, tossed into the bin, and scores recoded by skip counting by twos in writing), and kids began exploring Scratch Jr. Our previous work with other coding apps led up to this week's informal celebration of the Hour of Code. Coding will be part of our grander math work and sprinkled in during other parts of the day as well throughout the rest of the year. A few more photos here.

We also bid adieu to Samantha for the rest of the calendar year. She is completing this semester's course work and rejoin us for full-time student teaching beginning January 15th! Hooray!
