| Using soon-to-be-recycled markers as tally marks for the number of days in school. |
After photos, snack, and Music, we began our first formal Reading Workshop. Over the summer, Mrs. Dyer, Read, and I read this text and participated in a course to unpack the strategies and research embedded in Richardson's recommendations. We will continue to collaborate through the year to offer more individualized literacy experiences across all three classrooms. Here is a glimpse of our plan for Reading Workshop based on our interpretation of the text:
9:50-10:00 Whole group- mini lesson (from Lucy Calkin’s Reader’s Workshop)
10:00-10:15 Stations, 1st Guided Reading Group
10:15-10:25 Whole group- shared reading, word study/phonics lesson
10:25-10:40 Stations, 2nd Guided Reading Group
10:40-10:55 Intervention Groups
While it seems as though there are a lot of transitions, the timing seemed to flow with the group's stamina for each time frame. Mrs. Dyer, Mrs. Read, and I met again this afternoon to reflect on our first day(s) with the new plan and plot a path for future literacy experiences.
We also celebrated day number 13 with recycled markers above, sticks, and so many more materials that could be counted to make 13. Check out the photos here!
