Monday in the Trees!

What a busy day!  Today a child led Morning Gathering for the first time. Each week I'll use Decide Now to pick one child to lead meeting, deliver attendance, and lead the line (most of the time) for the entire week. This gives kids a chance to practice the new routine with their peers over the course of a week and then pass the torch to the next person the following week.

Today was the first day kids visited the Library. Each child should have a small bag with a Library book in it. Please return the book next Monday!

During Open Mike, we talked about the question in the image above as it relates to Global Goal #15: Life on Land. The children had some theories about why the worms were out on the road and then we watched a video to check in with the scientific reasoning for the phenomena.  It seems as though there is some debate about why worms leave the underground when it rains. Two plausible theories are that water filling their burrows or holes is too much for them to breath or the burrows are flooded with excessive rainfall.  Can anyone confirm this either way?

We spent the afternoon in the trees lining the hillside with Mrs. Davison's class. There are so many good images here, which we reflected upon during afternoon snack. Tomorrow, we will follow up again and I will ask kids to write in their journals about their work in the woods. This is otherwise know as "Woods Reflection".

Lastly, we celebrating filling the "Bee Hive" with a dance party for the entire school in the courtyard.

Many thanks to the Rice family for passing along this image from their travels too (love the message!):
