Self-Portraits for Online Safety with @bonniebird and #globalcardboardchallenge

The room was abuzz with work on making self-portraits and generally growing familiar with the Paper app. Mrs. Birdsall lead the group in discussing the importance of keeping information about oneself private when online.  Using a self-portrait as an icon without any other identifiers is one strategy that can help with this. Eventually, these self-portraits will become part of their Seesaw account (rather than the random animals).

So much work went into designs for the Global Cardboard Challenge as well. There are five groups collaborating to build cardboard projects:  a team working on a marble run, a Rainforest, 2 rockets, a house, and a giraffe. Work will continue next week!

Also, the kids participated in the first On-Demand Writing Prompt required by CVSD. It is a distinctly different writing experience as kids are asked to respond to a question independently without support from others or me. This is vastly different than their usual writing work with is often richly collaborative. The intent is to use this piece to assess writing now and progress over time later in the year. There should be an entry in each child's Seesaw journal with their final work.

Have a lovely weekend!  More photos here.
