It was a gorgeous start the day, with the sun rising over the hill and kids from three classes playing in the snow. A few stories and items to share were up during Open Mike and later kids brought back new books from the Library. Later during reading workshop, we talked about and I modeled smooth vs. choppy reading in "Just Right" books and we learned about Mae Jemison (the first African American woman astronaut) to extend Women's History month.
We also visited Leafy, who sadly lost one of her limbs. The group was so concerned, particularly as they had tried to help save the limb for months before it finally snapped off. A few comments and questions arose:

Do they make tree tape? If so, we could fix her limb. |

"I am not just climbing her, I am hugging her to keep her warm."

As he covers the limb in snow, he says, "We are making her a bed."
